Position Description:

The Policy Analyst provides policy and health care market research, monitoring, legislative analysis, regulatory analysis, and strategic support on client matters. The ability to pursue research questions, analyze complex and evolving trends and synthesize and communicate findings (written and verbal) in a fast-paced environment is a core requirement of the position. The candidate must have excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to present complex information to internal and external audiences with varying backgrounds and in a variety of formats, ranging from PowerPoint presentations and short summaries to detailed memos and white papers.  

Additionally, it will be important for the Analyst to work cohesively with the team, stay organized in the face of shifting priorities, and work independently under tight deadlines. Clients include some of the top health plans, provider organizations, industry coalitions and associations, Fortune 100 companies, and U.S. and international health care innovators. The position is based in our Washington, D.C. office.

Salary Range:

$61,000 – $91,000 (annual base). Final compensation will be commensurate with education and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Work as a part of a team to provide analysis to clients on various aspects of health care policy, market and economic trends, regulations, legislation, and operations.
  • Monitor and analyze evolving health care issues and related reports and synthesize and track trends for the team.
  • Support the development of updates for external stakeholders, with the help of content experts, as necessary.
  • Conduct background research and data analysis as necessary to support development of health policy and strategic business materials.
  • Research and support development client-facing materials, including drafting and editing written materials for clients, such as formal papers, memos, PowerPoints, and comment letters.
  • Draft summaries of key legislation, regulation, hearings, industry meetings and guidance
  • Assist in coordination and planning of client meetings.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Additional 2-5 years of experience and/or applicable graduate degree in health care policy preferred.
  • Broad understanding of dynamics of health care policy and the sector’s trends; health care industry experience and/or relevant coursework.
  • Understanding of how health care is financed and delivered in the U.S., in particular under Medicaid, Duals programs, HCBS/LTSS/MLTSS and other community-based supports.
  • Knowledge of range of health care policy issues and programs such as Medicare Advantage, Medicare FFS, exchange markets, employer health plans, health care reform, life sciences, mental health, and quality measurement.
  • Interest in advancing constructive and innovative changes to the health care system.
  • Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail and familiarity with health care data sources.
  • Experience monitoring, summarizing, and analyzing federal legislation, regulations, rules, & guidance.
  • Experience and working knowledge of state-based health and social services and supports programs.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills and the ability to present complex information to internal and external audiences with varying backgrounds and in a variety of formats, ranging from PowerPoint presentations and short summaries to detailed memos and white papers.

Healthsperien Internship Program:

Position Description

Healthsperien is seeking enthusiastic and passionate interns with a desire to gain experience working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment seated at the intersection of health care policy, business strategy, and government affairs. All interns must enjoy working in a small but growing office that is results driven. The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication, the ability to conduct thorough research, excellent administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain balance among multiple priorities, in addition to exercising sound judgement in a variety of situations. Working knowledge of health policy and related majors, degrees, or coursework is preferred.

Hours: flexible depend on student’s program, (minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week); students located in Washington, D.C. are encouraged to join us in our downtown office and will be given preference in the selection process, however, remote candidates are also welcome to apply.

Roles & Responsibilities

Interns will work closely with Policy Analysts, Policy Directors, and Vice Presidents to support client work in various capacities. Responsibilities could include, but are not limited to:

  • Policy, Advocacy, & Business Strategy
    • legislative and regulatory analysis (i.e. regulatory summaries),
    • policy writing (e.g., briefs and memos for various clients, including advocacy)
    • research (e.g., white papers, background memos, etc.),
    • event planning (e.g., hill briefings and stakeholder convenings)
    • business strategy development
    • attend meetings, hearings, and events on behalf of clients and key partners and provide detailed minutes and summaries 4
  • Operations & Administration
    • Assist with scheduling & outreach both with clients and internally
    • Support with operational and administrative tasks in our Washington, DC office

Health Policy & Strategy interns would be expected to contribute substantively to the policy and strategic thinking across the firm’s diverse clientele.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must have or be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program, or higher. Masters-level students are preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Undergraduate or Graduate students in business, public policy, public health, health management, economics, or similar social sciences.
  • Interest in working on difficult health policy and strategy questions, especially those focused on complex and vulnerable populations (e.g., marginalized communities and end of life care).
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple ongoing projects.
Compensation

Interns should expect competitive compensation commensurate with experience and level of coursework. Actively enrolled students can expect school credit, if relevant, in addition or in lieu of financial compensation.

Additionally, due to the small size of our office and opportunities to work directly with high-level staff, develop relationships, and network in D.C. with important stakeholders (in the health policy, technology, health provider and plan, or other), interns can expect to receive valuable exposure and experiences throughout their time at Healthsperien.
